About the Experience
Surrounded by wooded hills and the sea, Kamakura combines centuries of samurai history with temples, traditional crafts and coastal landscapes.
This full-day walking tour takes you beyond the usual sightseeing routes, accompanied by a local guide who shares the stories behind Kamakura’s cultural landmarks. Begin in Kita-Kamakura with a visit to Engaku-ji or another significant temple or shrine, then follow local paths towards the centre of the city, passing Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine.
Meet a master of Kamakura-bori, a traditional woodcarving craft, at a gallery housed in a historic Japanese building. Learn about the craft’s history and techniques and watch a live carving demonstration.
After lunch, ride the Enoden railway towards Hase-dera Temple or the Great Buddha at Kotoku-in Temple. The day concludes with a relaxing seaside footbath in Inamuragasaki before returning to Kamakura Station.
The itinerary can be adjusted according to the season, guests’ interests and fitness levels.
